🌄 Coorg Travel Blog – A 2-Day Journey into the Scotland of India

Trip Duration: 2 Days
Transport Mode: Bus & Scooty
Best For: Nature lovers, solo travellers, peace seekers
Ideal Season: All year round (except peak monsoon for better visibility)

🚌 Day 1: Into the Heart of the Coffee Forest

My journey to Coorg began early morning from the Mysore Bus Stand. I boarded a bus to Madikeri, the main town in Coorg, and reached by afternoon. The ride was smooth and scenic, passing through winding roads and green hills.

Upon arrival, I picked up a rented Activa scooty for ₹1000 (2 days) — a must for exploring the interiors of Coorg. Then, I headed to my pre-booked homestay deep inside the coffee plantations. The cost? ₹3500 per night — slightly on the higher side, but worth every rupee.

🌿 Homestay Highlights:
  • Nestled amidst thick forest and coffee trees

  • Serene silence broken only by bird chirps

  • Perfect escape from city noise

  • One of the best homestays I’ve ever stayed in!

After placing my luggage, I rode to visit a nearby hidden waterfall. The sound of gushing water and the peaceful environment made it a refreshing experience.

⚠️ Important Tip: Save the offline map if you plan to explore forest areas. Network disappears often, and you can lose direction easily.

On my return journey, I slightly lost my way as it grew darker. Thankfully, with the help of kind locals, I found my way back to the city and had dinner in a nearby restaurant. Later, I returned to the homestay for a calm night under the forest canopy — a rare and magical experience.

🌄 Day 2: Mandalpatti & Talacauvery – A Day of Scenic Heights

I shifted to another stay in Madikeri town for Day 2, which cost around ₹1800. The room was spacious and cozy. My next stop was the famous Mandalpatti Viewpoint — known as the Scotland of India. I rode my scooty up to a certain point, but from there, normal vehicles aren't allowed. So, I hopped into a shared jeep (zeep/zepsy) that cost ₹400 per person.

🌫️ Mandalpatti Experience:
  • Fog-covered mountain tops

  • Cold breeze and panoramic views

  • Ideal for photography and silent reflection

After soaking in the views and clicking some stunning photos, I returned to my scooty and had lunch nearby.

Despite being tired, I decided to head towards Talacauvery, the origin point of the sacred Cauvery River, located about 45 km from Madikeri. The ride through mountain roads was thrilling yet peaceful, surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

At Talacauvery:

  • I touched the holy water at the source

  • Offered prayers at the Maa Cauvery Temple

  • Experienced the mystical vibes as the entire area was engulfed in fog

On my way back, I stopped at a roadside shop, had hot Maggi and tea, and felt deeply content with the mountain chill. I then rode back safely, had dinner at a Punjabi restaurant, and ended the day resting in my warm room.
